Luke’s not one for big speeches, but he makes every word count.
Bryan Stroud at Comics Bulletin gave us a nice write-up last week. Give it a look!
That rallying speech was 10 seconds of pure, distilled badass.
Panzer and Max’s faces are unambiguous (Surprise and Sadistic Glee respectively), but Henry’s worries me… He looks mad? Well, nobody likes a kill-stealer, I guess. Wounded pride, perhaps?
Panzer has, both historically and now, occurred to me as surprisingly mild-mannered. For all his size and strength and near-invulnerability (and admittedly he doesn’t shy from killing), he follows orders, doesn’t seem to protest, doesn’t seem to scheme, and puts up with Geist’s teasing with a sort of mild disapproval (not that he can do much about that). Even now as he finds Cpt. Victory alive, instead of poorly-focused rage as one could imagine many characters feeling (Heck, Henry, for example, seems more angry than surprised, and Cpt. Victory is on his own team!), his face shows mild surprise, a certain ‘Whaaa?.’
Yeah, he looks like : “Well, that cocky bastard Schnell had it coming some time now. Didn’t like him anyway. But how could that american be still standing ?”
Somehow aside being made an Übermensch, Panzer seems to be still just a soldier with no strings attached.
Panzer strikes me, in RPG terms, as the Munchkin’s character only not as well thought out. I mean, and this going by what I know, he’s vulnerable to drowning (difficult to exploit but possible) and the old staple thermite which I think came into use during WW II. Yeah… these seem like amazingly lame powers in war. Schnell could have been taken out by a minefield and a daisy chain.
I don’t know. Super-strength and invulnerable metal skin seem like pretty useful powers to have in wartime. With bullets flying and bombs going off and all.
Useful but not nearly as powerful as one might think. He’s kind of like a small Landkreuzer. Yeah, no other tank on land can take him out but get him on the coast and he’s probably done. And now I am picturing luring him over a section of beach with enough explosives to launch him over a mile out to sea. I’m such a bad person.
At the very least, Henry’s annoyed that there’s not going to be a rematch, he can’t prove himself against the guy that beat him the first time.
He’s been upstaged once again!
Max is, uhh, really getting into this, isn’t he?
Well, just imagine yourself at his place. Some sadistic asshole just ripped up the only really friendly guy he met at the barracks while Max failed to do his job. For a change, the bad in the world got its well deserved kick in the teeth / chin turned on its back.
I don’t think Max discovered his inner killer. It’s just some grim gree.
Well, it could still be a danger sign.
I note that Max can also think that he contributed to the death — his bullets drove the bad guy into the death trap — and is proud he helped avenge Ox.
Ooof, killing Macht Schnell broke his arm, and he just snaps it back in place and goes on with business?
I thought it was more the pummeling and high-speed crash into the building that broke his arm, and he just hadn’t gotten around to fixing it yet. Stuff is actually happening pretty fast…
Jeebus, he just flexes to set his arm? Luke, what did they do to you man?
Looks like he smacked it straight against the wall.
*Nominates last panel for a wallpaper.
AYE! *waves hand frantically*
I’ll see what I can do to make that happen.
I… do not like Max’s face. D:
I’m wondering, whatever May’s emotional state, does he realize the best thing he could do is to go after Panzer and at least try and hold him down?
Ugh, should be Yakumo, like now.
At the moment, I don’t think Max is thinking very tactically. He’s all raw emotion.
You know it’s time for a power chord…
I do not know how strong Panzer is, but I have a theory about defeating him, or at least making him less of a threat. While we can assume that ordinary bullets cannot pierce through his metal casing they could still potentially shake him up or deafen him? From what I read, and discussed, when a tank could not be destroyed, due to the lack of adequate anti-tank weapons, smaller arms and lighter cannons could still be used to deafen and confuse the people inside the tank, by continuous fire, eventually forcing them to abandon the tank or for anti-tank teams to get close enough to destroy the tank.
I imagine that if Panzer was pelted with small arms fire and bombs he would be unable to respond at all, thus giving the rest of the team time to find an effective method of dealing with him. Or if you want a real life presentation of what I mean, put a bucket on your head and start whacking it with a spoon.
Of course, such strong resonance was possible in a tank since the inside of the tank was “empty”, and I do not know just how “empty” or susceptible to such attacks would Panzer be.
Perhaps a flamethrower would boil some of the delicious organs inside that pressure-cooker skin?
Assuming his organs are “soft”, rather than also in some ways resistant to damage and heat. If he had just a metal “casing”, then yes, he could be boiled alive. But if he is, hypothetically, 100% Metal then he might be impossible to boil alive, or melt even.
Any metal you couldn’t harm with incendiaries would be too brittle to make good armor. Of course, 2 we’re talking magic here, so that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.
We haven’t gone into detail on Panzer’s physiology (we may, eventually), but he is 100% “living metal”. This includes his organs and even his hair. This is not to say that there’s nothing that could hurt him, but his insides are no more susceptible to heat than his skin.
The final panel reminds me of the final battle one-liner in ALIENS: The bay door rolls up, revealing the power-loader that lots of folks completely forgot about, and she steps forward with dread purpose. Stopping, she glares at the alien queen and shouts “Get away from her, YOU BITCH!!”
One Liners are always best, like Wrex’s in Mass Effect 3: “I AM URDNOT WREX…AND THIS..IS MY…PLANET!” *words punctuated by shotgun blasts FOR EMPHASIS!*
So I see Cap Vic prefers the Spartan school of rallying speeches?
