Wow, it’s amazing what you can do with a little foundation and a lot of black magic!
Well, I guess we’re going to close up shop, since Breaking Bad just rendered all other works of fiction obsolete. Okay, not really, but wow, what a show!
Woah. Yeah, the Baron is not someone to annoy or make angry. Is it bad that he’s one of my favorite characters at this point? An extremely well done villain.
It’s not bad at all. In fact, we’ll take it as a compliment. Thanks!
I take it she had some power before he retrieved the Orb.
Yes, though it was very limited.
And we finally get a taste of the Baron’s displeasure. A real Übermensch.
now i am going to have the “bye bye boobies” song from that episode of 2 and a half men in my head all day..
Not necessarily a great move from the Baron. A quick scolding would have sufficed. You all know the saying: “Hell hath no fury…”. As weak as she may be compared to the Baron, she may yet be very dangerous.
By this point, we have at least 3 confirmed kills against the Baron’s secretaries. I think a quick scolding would have had no effect at this point…
I know what you mean, but this is the Baron, after all…
I figure his attitude towards Magda is more akin to that of a parent putting up with a petulant child’s tantrums. Three secretaries is merely starting to annoy him, and had Magda not stated that “she” taught the Baron all he knows, I don’t even think he would have even gone beyond “Can you please stop killing my secretaries?”. Humiliating “An immature, vain, narcisistic, unstable, psychotic Nazi with superpowers” is likely to have an effect exactly opposite to what the Baron was looking for…
But yeah, let’s see where this goes! 😉
I love that the Baron isn’t an exclamation point villain. There’s nothing like a cold psychopath for a good chill.
I’m glad you like him, Royan! We’ve tried really hard not to let our villains be two-dimensional, which can be difficult, considering how few pages they get.
wow the baron is hardcore i wonder what the the ubermensch where like before they got powers also will you show more max shnell
We will see more of Max Schnell, though not in this particular interlude. I have it on good authority that you’ll see him and the rest of the Ubermenschen in Chapter 4.
What is it with you and making incredibly badass speaches?
I must admit that I was pretty pleased with the way the Baron’s dialogue turned out on this page. I’m glad you like it!
I imagine his imperious tones have an echo to it, almost god-like. Adds to his cryptic nature.
I’m wondering if Magda is actually 90 and has been using her magic to appear younger, or if she’s really young and has been withered by her use of black magic and is merely using the illusion to appear the way she would, ironically, have appeared had she not delved in the dark magic in the first place. I’d think a 90 year old would be past having schoolgirl crushes on psychopaths, but then again, love does stupid things to people.
She actually is quite older than she usually appears. Before the Baron found the Orb and used it to enhance her abilities, this youthening effect was almost all she was able to accomplish, and she worked hard to maintain it.
Emotionally, Magda is much like a schoolgirl. She’s obsessed with her looks and extremely possessive of her “boyfriend”. Unfortunately, this is a schoolgirl with magic powers and the superiority complex of a Nazi…
What’s worse than a Nazi? – An immature, vain, narcisistic, unstable, psychotic Nazi with superpowers! Charming. 🙂
A Nazi with superior technolgy, magic, a vampire, a werewolf. It is the buzz that gets things worse than before.
So the youthening effect; is it illusion, or does the magic actually keep her young?
Good question. To be honest, I haven’t really worked out the nuts-and-bolts of exactly how this works. I’ll give you my initial thoughts, but it’s possible that I could change my mind sometime in the future, if I give it more thought, or the story calls for it.
Anyway, the current explanation is that it is a physical effect. In other words, her body really has been made younger. However, it requires a constant expenditure of power to maintain it. If her power is removed, as the Baron does on this page, she reverts to her natural state.
See, that’s why Webcomics are superior to TV, movies, and books – you can’t stop a movie in the middle and ask the author to explain the parts of that last scene that you weren’t clear on!
I’m suspecting she’s older than any of us could imagine…and while I like to think that with age comes wisdom, it apparently isn’t the case with Magda.
The wolves turn on each other…
No, this is just the Alpha reminding a lesser member of the pack of their proper place in the hierarchy of things.
So in summary, don’t mess with the secretary.
Talk about puppet strings. He empowers her. So she is much older than she appeared.
