Our First Look at the New Spider-Man
I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ve always been a big fan of Spider-Man. I loved the first two of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, even if they weren’t perfect. The third installment was a huge disappointment after the success of the first two, though I tend to believe that this was due to studio interference.
I’m fairly ambivalent about the upcoming “reboot”. On one hand, if it’s good, I certainly wouldn’t mind some more web-slinging action on the big screen. On the other hand, I kind of feel like the franchise has run its course, and it seems ridiculous to reboot a series that only just ended. But it’s coming whether I like it or not, and the first image of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man has been released today. Check it out:
I’m not sure what I think of it yet. One of the things I liked about the Raimi movies were that they were able to duplicate the costume from the comic quite faithfully and they made it look great. This version seems to take some unnecessary liberties with the classic design. I wonder if the changes are meant specifically to distance these movies from the previous incarnation.
I’m not saying that this version is bad. I’m just not convinced yet. I’ll need to see the costume as a whole, and probably see it in motion before I can definitively form an opinion.
What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments!

Nipples on the Batsuit
Wow, that’s pretty scathing. That bad, huh?
I think it looks alright. I’m more interested in how it’s going to be tied into Marvel’s new movie continuity.
I would assume that it won’t be a part of that continuity at all. The Avengers, and all of the movies leading up to it, are all being made by Marvel Studios. But Sony Pictures owns the movie rights to Spider-Man, so they’re doing their own thing. It’s really too bad. I wish that Marvel could get the rights to all of its characters back, so that they could all exist in a single, continuous cinematic world.
so this is totally unrelated to the other 3 is it ?
Yep, they’re starting over completely.
So far I like it! I like the fact that the webs on the suit are black like they should be. I like the fact that Spidey’s scrawny like he should be if he’s in high school. I just hope he can keep his mask on.
Yeah, why is it that movie superheroes always have to take off their mask during the climax? Speaking of which, I’m really curious to see how they’ve interpreted the mask.
My first thought was: “I wonder if Spaulding are backing the movie?”
Maybe that’s what gives him his bounce. 😀 I wish they would have stuck to some sort of cloth. Something that a teenager could ACTUALLY put together.
