A Song for Lady Liberty
Friend of the site (and my personal friend) Cameron Hays did us the great honor of writing a song about this week’s new character, Lady liberty. This song is modeled after the romantic crooners of the 1940s and it is awesome! The lyrics are below, and you can also see the sheet music and listen to the melody (midi piano with clarinet standing in for the vocals). Cameron says he would have liked to provide a recording with vocals, but that the song is out of his range. If anyone out there wants to take a crack at it, we’d love to hear it!
If you like gothy alt/prog rock, check out Cameron’s band, Choke the Word. (Lyrics after the break.)
Verse 1:
I know you like I know myself
Though you’re a mystery
Your face will launch a thousand ships
My Lady Liberty
Refrain:
Oh love, I cannot forget you
Liberty
And as you fly through my wildest dreams
I know my heart is not the only one you’ve broken
Verse 2:
I feel you standing next to me
Granting me charity
Your sweet lips bring me fortitude
My Lady Liberty
(Refrain)
Bridge:
Lady of my liberty
You stand for all that I care for
Oh say can you see,
I adore my star-spangled girl
Ending:
And as you fly across the battlefield
My heart longs for you
