Webcomic Spotlight: Monster Soup
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: A vampire, a zombie, a ghost, a werewolf, and a gypsy fortune teller all appear in an awesome webcomic…
Devin Blake’s Monster Soup is a fairly new comic, but it’s off to a great start. The story is compelling and written in a light, comfortable style. The first chapter shows the trials of the protagonists, each appearing before a presumably glowering invisible judge and accused of various crimes against human and/or monster kind. Each is sentenced to a stay in Oubliette Castle, where their different monstrous natures can clash in entertaining ways.
The art is clean and attractive with a slight anime touch. The character designs are indicative of their monstrous natures without being over-done. The relatively muted supernatural elements make the occasional overt display, such as these awesome bio-luminescent horses, really stand out.
Monster Soup updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s only in its second chapter, so it’s easy to catch up. Once you do, I bet you’ll keep coming back.
