Webcomic Spotlight – Flying Fortress
The World War II era used to be a fairly popular setting for comics. Captain America, Nick Fury, and Sgt. Rock were all originally active during WWII (and Captain America Comics was actually printed during the war). But there aren’t many WWII comics being published today. Half of the story in Scott Austin’s webcomic Heroes, Inc. took place during WWII, through flashbacks. Sadly, Scott had to discontinue Heroes, Inc. last year and for a while, The Specialists was just about the only WWII comic around.
So we were really glad to have found Flying Fortress! Flying Fortress is the story of a B-17 bomber crew whose mission is to bomb Hitler’s “Eagle’s Nest”. But a funny thing happens on the way to Berchtesgaden and the crew soon find themselves battling an enemy from their darkest nightmares. (I don’t mean to be vague, but I don’t want to give anything away!)
Flying Fortress is the work of writer Andrew Walker and artists Eric Weathers and Andy Moore. I don’t mean to diminish the overall artwork, which is nice, but I have to call out the planes. Someone clearly put a lot of time into drawing all the planes in this series, and they look great!
Flying Fortress is available in print and online. There are three print issues available, and the online version has been adding a page every weekday (it’s about halfway through the second issue as of this writing). So check out the comic for free online and if you like what you see, you can order hardcopies from their store.
You can also come meet the Flying Fortress Crew at the Denver Comic Con in June, which, coincidentally is also where Al and I will be!
I am sorry, but must drop your comic from my reading list.
I am posting to let yo know why.
This is fine story with good characters and a unique art style. The problem is that once a week updates do not work for me. I follow many web comics, and as long as the story advances regularly I am ok . This story has not advanced significantly in over a month. At the pace of the panels, it should post at least 3 times a week to maintain continuity. As it is I must re read previous postings each time a new one is put up. I am too busy for that.
Good luck, I hope you do well.

Fair enough, JanBic. But before you leave us for good, you might consider coming back every few months or so, so that you can read several pages at once. A lot of our readers don’t read each page as it is published.
