Watcha Reading?
After re-reading the first four of George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire books and then the new fifth book, I was kind of exhausted. That’s close to 5,000 pages of very dense story. I started re-reading the first Wildcards book, which was recently re-released, but it wasn’t holding my attention, and I haven’t touched my Nook for a couple of weeks, which is just as well, because I haven’t had much time.
So what have you been reading lately? Any good?
(Speaking of Game of Thrones, congratulations to Peter Dinklage on his best supporting actor Emmy!)
The Dragonkeeper Chronicles by Donita K. Paul is a very good series.
My current reading is Infantry Attacks by Erwin Rommel. It was written in the 1930s as a training resource for infantry officers, based on Rommel’s experiences as an infantry Lieutenant in the First World War.
Live, Free or Die AND Citadel by John Ringo. I am almost finished with both.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo.
What? I happen to like the classics.
I’m reading those Song of Ice and Fire books for the first time right now, almost done with the third one. They are really good, but man, they kind of feel like an emotional kick in the face. I think I might need to take a break after the third one and read some lighter fare. Like much lighter fare. Along the lines of How the Grinch Stole Christmas or Goodnight Moon, lol. That is what I said after the first one, though, and yet I continue to lose sleep reading them. And hey! I now know what my friends mean when they describe how depressing something is in units of Ned Stark.
Yeah, they’re fairly grim! If you’re going to take a break, it would probably be good to do so after book 3. The fourth and fifth books take place during the same time, but each covers a different set of characters, so it’s best to read them back-to-back. (It’s kind of a weird structure, actually. It came about when Martin was taking so long to finish the fourth book and decided to split it in two.)
