Next week’s page isn’t ready for a preview yet (but I promise it will be on time on Monday!). So in lieu of Friday Foreshadowing, I want to share a powerful video with you.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has been given many names over the years. During WWII, it was known as “shell shock,” and our own Captain Luke Jensen suffers from it. In a superhero comic, PTSD can give a character a bit of edgy darkness. But in the real world, it can destroy lives. For a long time, it went untreated. Soldiers were simply expected to man up and deal with it. Even today, the stigma attached to mental health issues makes it hard for some soldiers to seek the help they need. But our understanding of the disorder and how to treat it are improving, slowly.
Watch this soldier’s very personal account of how PTSD has affected him and his family. It’ll break your heart.
Military spending on the actual people fighting these wars would go a long way to speed up treatment.
My son-in-law admitted in a USMC position change interview that he had sought treatment for PTSD and they told him that was no problem. Then the board said they could not recommend him for the position, because of his history of PTSD. So, still not dealt with.
That’s awful!
