I Can’t Stay Mad at You, Spider-Man
As much as I hated Spider-Man 3, I think it’s ridiculous to be “rebooting” the Spider-Man franchise with the previous series so fresh in our minds. They can change the cast and crew if they want to, but do we really need to retell the origin story? Is there anyone in the world who doesn’t know the basics of how Peter Parker became Spider-Man?
That being said, the new teaser trailer that was just released looks pretty decent. I especially love the last 45 seconds or so, shown from Spider-Man’s point of view. For my money, the whole movie could just be that.
If you haven’t seen it yet, the trailer is below.
the last part is cool, but i think it would get to me if it was a whole movie in that style.
Interesting….
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben….Damn….
First Person Wall Crawling….Have to admit, looks pretty cool.
Anyway, what I was originally going to say : The real reason for this reboot is, if Sony only has a certain window of opportunity (ten years IIRC) to use the rights they purchased from Marvel or lose them. With the success’ of Iron Man 1&2 and Thor (to a lesser degree), Sony has no interest in seeing the BILLIONS of dollars “Spidey Meets the Avengers” would make go into anyone else’s bank account.
Still, not a bad trailer.
“The real reason for this reboot is, if Sony only has a certain window of opportunity…” Actually there is no “if”. (How it got in there, I’ll never know…)
Yeah, I realize Sony has to maintain their license, and I don’t have a problem with them making more movies. What annoys me is that they’re starting all over with the origin story and everything. And I see that they’re doing it a little differently… They’re going with the mechanical web shooters instead of the organic, and they’re bringing in Pete’s parents. But still, it just doesn’t seem like they need to retell that story so soon. I’d be happy if they were just making new Spider-Man movies, with the origin taken as read.
Yeah I agree the first Trilogy is still too fresh. I don’t see any point to telling an origin story and sending him back to high school anymore than Warner re-telling the origin of Superman in ‘Man of Steel’. This is why I write and draw comics! And I think the reason so many of us do. Because we can never count on artistic integrity from a board of directors in a movie studio that decides to reboot a franchise for the sake of more money. My stories will never let me down.
Looks like they’re rebooting because they want to base things on dark emo Spidey rather than quiety nerdy Spidey.
That trailer is a lot better than I expected. Rebooting comics franchises is so trendy right now. You should reboot The Specialists. Then you could be one of the cool kids 😉
Ha! That would be especially funny, since we haven’t even finished our initial “boot”. Although, the idea isn’t completely unappealing. If we started over, then we could address all the little things that we now wish we had done a little differently.
You’re right, though, rebooting is everywhere. Did you know that they’re already planning on rebooting the Batman franchise, even though there’s still another movie in the current iteration yet to be released? Craziness.
I did not know about the Batman reboot. Is the new Batman movie going to be called “Batman Movies Make Money”?
