Every inch of Hartmann hurt. His twin’s beating had been thorough and merciless. But worse than Heinrich’s fists had been his eyes. Those eyes that held no love for Hartmann, nor even a glimmer of recognition. They were the cold, unfeeling eyes of a shark. Hartmann’s bruises and broken bones would be gone in a few weeks, but his brother’s eyes had left a scar that would never heal.
Hartmann emerged from the Asylum haltingly. He had no idea what he would find on the battlefield; whether his new friends had been defeated by the old. But he was glad to escape the smells of this horrible place, and feel the light of the sun on his face. But that light was quickly blotted out by something very large, moving very fast…
