It turns out that this storyline is in the Ultimate universe, so it’s not even going to affect the primary Spider-Man titles. I think it’s telling that this hasn’t been made more clear. It’s just being promoted as “The Death of Spider-Man,” and people are allowed to assume that it’s the same character that they remember from their childhood (not that the Ultimate version is all that different, but still…).

Ultimate Spider-Man doesn’t have the decades of “Clone Sagas” and other nonsense to provide an easy out, but I’m sure they’ll find some way to bring the character back within a couple of months.
