May I recommend the book, “Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle” for those times when you really want to simultaneously congratulate yourself on having some semblance of taste, feel intellectually superior, and completely despair at the abysmal state of modern entertainment.

In reply to Arlene. Glee Project hasn't made it into my wife's rotation, which is surprising, since she's a "Gleek" (which in my day was that thing that sometimes happens where saliva squirts out from beneath your tongue). I was reminded tonight that there are actually a few reality shows that are even worse than Big Brother, such as Bridezillas and Toddlers & Tiaras. Most reality shows seem determined to show humanity at its worst, but some make me want to shower. (Fortunately, these aren't regulars in our house; they're just the kinds of shows you end up watching when you are pinned to the couch by laziness, and the remote is just out of reach.)

I’ve recently started watching Platinum Hit and Glee Project with my friends, which I think is kind of like a gateway drug to Real Housewives and Big Brother, so it’s probably only a matter of time. Dark side, here I come! I used to watch good, geeky shows like Star Trek and Dr. Who. I need an intervention or something.
