From what I’ve heard, the villain in The Avengers will indeed be Loki, and the post-credits scene in Thor seems to set that up.

I hear a rumor that Loki is going to be the villain in the Avengers movie, which would be great, since he was such so awesome. He was my favorite character, I think because he was easy to identify with. Imagine having a brother as perfect as Thor, yikes. But Thor was still really likeable, too. Well done movie, far exceeded my expectations.
