A rabbi and an R.C. pries t are sitting together at an ecumenical dinner.

Priest: “I hear your people aren’t supposed to eat ham.”
Rabbi: “Yeah, that’s true.”
Priest: “Weren’t you ever tempted?”
Rabbi: “Yeah, I broke down and had a ham and cheese sandwich once.”

(Pause, then):

Rabbi: “So – I hear you’re not supposed to have sex.”
Priest: “Yes, we take a vow of celibacy.”
Rabbi: “You tellin’ me no woman ever tempted you?”
Priest: “Only once…she was so…sedective…I couldn’t help myself.”
Rabbi: “It was better than ham, wasn’t it?”

Well, I had to cope with kashrud fouraging an israeli jouth exchange delegation not so long ago. I must admit I would miss a lot. It´s not even leaving out things like pork or even my beloved mussels and crevettes. It´s combining milk and meat I would miss most: serving cream sauce with a good beef steak (oh hamburger, thou artst a degenerate offspring of a once truly noble meal!) or having a yoghurt sauce with lamb, that I would truly miss!
But kashrud has one point strongly in favor: quality! In my opinion the most important thing of it all. Its not about what you serve. its about the condition you raise the fruits and the cattle, its about being gentle to the living creature you are about to butcher, it´s about keeping the products in natural, quality condition. The cr*p you are sold in modern supermarkets is just that: cr*p, mixed up with chemistry. And with all this forging of labels going on I trust the rabbi more than some signl saying “bio” on some stuff imported from china.

Ham does taste great, but I’m actually not very fond of bacon. A bit too salty, greasy and/or crispy for my taste. I like my meat juicy, so I also prefer ham over beef. Lamb might beat ham, but it’s kind of expensive, so I don’t eat a lot of that.

I’d also like to report what looks like a typo in the second panel, where Max says his last name is “Finklestein” instead of “Finkelstein”.

In reply to shuilung. I know someone who's been in the process of converting that loves bacon. She's been aiming for 'Reform Judaism', though, and just has a personal rule of following the dietary laws on Sabbath, and tries to stick to it.
