For “The Incredibles” they scouted and searched so they wouldn’t step on copy writes and copy others for their super hero nom de plumes. Maybe Genera “___” should be used as part of the name? Love the artwork and stories. I am a sucker for alternate world stories. Especially such good ones.

We were aware of Kirby’s Captain Victory. We have a couple of other characters coming up with names that have been used in comics in the past (Lady Liberty, for instance). From what I’ve read, names are not subject to copyright, though they can be trademarked. Before we started the comic, I searched online databases for any trademarks of the names of our characters, and I couldn’t find any. So I think we’re safe (though copyright and trademark issues are pretty thorny, so you never know what might happen). In any case, we’ve tried to avoid trouble, as best we could.

Correction: Captain Victory was in PC (Pacific Comics) a brief highlight in comicdom that lasted about a year. That is where the Rocketeer got his start. There was a Captain Victory in “Ink Pen” that changed his name to Captain Victorious to avoid copyright infringment on Kirby’s work. (Yes, I read a LOT of comics.) I just checked and Major Victory is also taken by DC Comics (three different characters) and Marvel Comics as an alternative name for Vance Astro. I’ll keep thinking of workable V names, Major Victory is still workable since multiple comic companies have used it, just like Captain Marvel.
