The thing is that Nietzsche’s Übermensch is not only superior in raw power and possibilities but in morality – something the Nazi idea of an Übermensch lacks greatly outside their own twisted version of it, when taken to the test by level-headed people.

Dr. Nietzsche didn’t have good things to say about Germany and Germans. He would not have been surprised, or happy, with the Nazis. His own sister was one before they became Nazis in Bavaria. He found them disgusting and loathsome idiots.

Dr. Nietzsche‘s view of his overman concept was someone like Goethe.

But that didn’t stop Elizabeth Nietzsche or anyone else from appropriating a few things and turning them into what too many known and still believe today.

I had been contemplating writing something about what would be left had the self destructive Nazis won. How long would they last? Not a good prospect.

One worse case scenario is the totalitarians win. Not just Germany and Japan, but Russia, Italy, and Spain to name a few.

Yes, I couldn’t think of his name so Baron Blut came to mind.

There is also the very hard truth that survival is not always the same thing as winning.

I see a difference between being better prepared and being superior.

a modern car is superior to a model T because there’s almost nothing the model T can do to match a modern car no matter how prepared it’s driver is.

the Übermenschen may be more organized at the moment and so will likely win this fight but that in no way means they superior. as for losing main cast that won’t likely happen until the very end of the story and even then I can only see the cap dying,

Debatable, but I see your point. The comic itself is based around The Specialists. They (the good ole’ captain included) are our protagonists: and we expect them to beat the odds and come out on top in the end.

But there’s a lot of subtext there, isn’t there? “Beat the odds” must mean that the odds are stacked heavily against them. And if the odds are so stacked, i’d venture that that means the Übermenschen are superior. At least for the moment, they certainly seem to have a better grasp of their abilities, they’ve all seen combat before, they’ve been deployed by the German State to win battles time and time again. The Specialists are downright green in comparison.

Another key phrase is “in the end”. While we talk about the constraints of the medium, the fact is that the story of The Specialists is just getting started. Who knows what characters we’ll lose on the way to victory? Who knows whether any of the original team will see Germany and her Übermenschen defeated?
