It’s official, the Golem is Eeyore.

Since he is is jewish in the midst of a war meant to eradicate his people, amongst other things, I’d say he understands.

Oh, I didn’t realize that that was used in Atomic Robo, but it’s not surprising, since AR’s story begins in the WWII era. When we were first creating the comic, we wanted to come up with a sweetly innocent and era-appropriate exclamation that Max would use. We considered a few options, including “Horsefeathers!” but “Applesauce!” won out. I think the first instance of it is on page 21.

Applesauce as a swear word. Atomic Robo is the only place I’ve ever seen that.

Al and I have both read a little Atomic Robo, and liked it quite a bit, but there aren’t any intentional references to it. What specifically were you referring to?
