It probably also doesn’t help that the Doctor was rather a condescending jerk to the Baron when we saw them interacting. The Baron doesn’t seem like the sort of easygoing guy to just let that go. If the Baron was already insecure about the threat posed to his position posed by the potential success of the Doctor’s program, then the Doctor (in their previous encounter) just whacked that hornets’ nest a few times with a big stick.

You’re mostly right, but the Baron is actually concerned that Metzger’s process will be effective, which is why he feels threatened by him. He’s less concerned about the Nazis’ success than he is about he himself being the instrument of that success. He’s every bit as vane and proud as Magda, but he is concerned about being perceived as powerful rather than physically attractive.

Those are some pretty astute observations, Tsapki!

On one end Luke and Hartmann. Now obviously Luke doesn’t like Hartmann but it occurs to me both were part of a Supersoldier project and while both were just about the most successful examples, the end result involved a good deal of disillusionment. Luke with realizing how many people died trying to get the serum to work and Hartmann in realizing that when he fell short, he became expendable.

The second thought is on the recent bit with Agnes and Mark and it is plainly this; secrets. Mark probably knows how crippling it can be to have so many secrets. The type that can as Agnes said “ruin lives”. While she has had to cope with being able to learn secrets without even trying, I have little doubt that Mark has been able to learn to cope with the weight of 28 ways to kill a man with your thumb, the actual process of what a nuclear explosion does to a human body, and keeping from losing your lunch when having to smile and make small talk with a man who can just barely be considered a person after what he does to stray dogs.

Well the main thing being that the Baron is offput by the Doctor due to, what I am guessing, is that he does not feel the Doctor’s method is actually all that effective. The Baron has been careful not to say anything actively negative about the project, since he doesn’t want to upset die Fuhrer but is quick to give ‘commentary’ and his ‘expert opinion’ on how effective they be in war.

The other thing I imagine is just plain competitiveness. The Baron has spent years working on his methods and while perhaps a lengthy process, he has made some astonishingly powerful strides to help the Nazi war. He may be taking the quality over quantity route and perhaps looks at the Doctor as offering a cheap solution or worse something of a snakeoil salesman. On a personal note, seeing as how the Doctor only has one successful test subject, I don’t much like how he is boasting the promise of an army.

I’ve been meaning to get those done for a long time. I’ll try to finish them soon.
