Jack-Be-Nimble

Henry Whitney III
Jack-Be-Nimble

Born into a life of luxury, Henry never had to work for anything except his father’s respect. Gifted with natural athletic talent and the best trainers money could buy, he won a position in the 1936 U.S. Olympic track and field team. He was favored to take home gold, but was bested in every event by Jesse Owens, the colored breakout star of that year’s Olympic Games. Humiliated by his defeat, Henry harbored a bitter resentment toward Owens, and by extension, Negroes in general.

In another desperate bid to impress his father, Henry used his family’s influence to get onto the American super-soldier team The Specialists. The atomic-powered Hermes exoskeleton enhances his natural abilities, allowing him to run at an incredible rate and throw small objects at ballistic speeds. Unfortunately, Henry feels that he is overshadowed by his teammates, particularly team leader Captain Jansen and Lieutenant Johns, another Negro. But the rest of the team seems uncomfortable in the spotlight, so Henry is hopeful that he can earn a more prominent position through superior charisma.
