Today we lay to rest Sergeant Alvin “Ox” Oxley. Many will remember that Ox perpetuated discriminatory practices, but he was a product of his time, and he otherwise didn’t seem to be a bigot. Let’s also remember that Ox was the first person that Max met when he moved to the Washington Barracks, and he treated the young newcomer with kindness and compassion. Ox was a loyal friend and a courageous soldier. At Marigny, he bore witness to the evil of the Nazis. At The Asylum, his quick thinking prevented Geist from turning his men against each other. Ox may not have been perfect, but in a world of Frank Goetzes and Dean Bennetts, he was a goddamn saint.

Rest in peace, soldier. You will be missed.
