The Specialists

These days, movies that aren’t sequels, or remakes, or reboots, or adaptations of comics, or video games, or even board games, are rare. For that reason alone, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim is intriguing. But on top of that, it’s a super-fun movie. It’s the first big-budget Hollywood movie to take on the giant robots vs. giant monsters genre, and it does a great job with it. Also, it stars Idris Elba, which is never not a good thing. If you like robots, or monsters, or movies, or fun, I highly recommend you get yourself and as many of your friends as possible, and go see Pacific Rim. If it’s successful, maybe Hollywood will be willing to take a chance on more original ideas.
